What are the little bumps in Tapioca Pudding?

Giant tapioca pearls, yes i know it sounds kind of nasty, i thought so myself before i tried it, but they taste like giant gummy bears lol. I dont know if you have like a chinatown or anything around where you live but at the one in Philly you can find bubble tea on every corner.
