A Fluther poll: Have you ever been suspended from Fluther?

Asked by Coloma (47193points) July 10th, 2011

I am about 5 months out of a 2 week suspension and still on parole for going off topic too much and a bit of huffiness once upon a time.

What about you? Have you ever been suspended or given warning for your Fluther Faux Paus?

I have been given 2 warnings for the quality of my writing aka writing standards.
I sorted it out and am now a happy jelly :)
Hopefully, I’ll never get suspended.

flutherother's avatar

No, I’ve had a couple of questions modded and that is about it. How dull.

DominicX's avatar

I’ve had a couple questions modded for having a question that was not really a question, and I’ve had a few responses modded for being off-topic and for having personal attacks. That hasn’t happened in a while, though :) But no, I’ve never been suspended…

ucme's avatar

Nah, i’m fucking untouchable me!
No I haven’t, slightly suprised by that & actually quite grateful when all’s said & done.
Seems despite my “edgy” style i’m pretty much accepted….for now :¬)

MilkyWay's avatar

@ucme And for many years to come I hope :)

ucme's avatar

@MilkyWay Gawd bless ya for that m’dear, don’t know about years though ;¬}

Blueroses's avatar

Man, I’ve barely even been moderated.
Sigh… the bad kids are sooo cool.

Seaofclouds's avatar

I’ve been modded a few times, but no personal warnings or suspensions.

Vunessuh's avatar

I’ve never been given a warning or been suspended from here.

I was put in the penalty box a few times over at Answerbag. I think it was easier to get into trouble over there, though. No, they never really put emphasis on staying on topic or being able to write well, but if you called someone a name, you were penalized immediately even if it was your first offense and even if it was something trivial like calling someone a jerk. You couldn’t curse over there, either. I had posts removed even if I wrote f**k instead of fuck. I got suspended over there once for calling someone an idiot and another time for telling someone to remove their dog’s dick from their mouth. The latter was one of my finest moments, though. lawl

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Modded a couple of times, off topic. No warnings.

JilltheTooth's avatar

@Seaofclouds : I can’t believe you’ve been modded! Geez, woman, there is no one here who is more patient than you, and I’ve never seen you even remotely snarky! Sometimes when I’m getting ready to let ‘er rip at someone I stop and think “WWSOCD?” and dial it back. Usually not enough, and I get modded anyway…

Berserker's avatar

@Vunessuh I got away with swearing on AB constantly. Denno what was up with that, guess I got lucky?
I was put in the ^penalty box over there for three days though, but I was really drunk and I don’t remember what I did. They didn’t really tell me either, in that mail they send you about it. I think I was just running around being completely random in questions.

Never been suspended here, and never got any warnings, either. Just some posts modded as unhelpful, for going off topic too much. From what I’ve seen anyways. Maybe other stuff I posted was removed for different reasons. I wish I was able to see a history of my wall of shame. XD

lillycoyote's avatar

No. No warnings, no suspensions, nothing like that. I get modded with some frequency. For issues with my questions; I can’t seem to get the hang of asking the kind of questions fluther likes; and for off-topic chatter in the General section. I’m a repeat offender in the off-topic chatter department though apparently not often enough to get suspended. Sometimes I just can’t help myself even though I know I will most likely get modded for. But I’m polite not all, but most of the time, even if I don’t particularly feel like being polite. It think being rude, flaming, insulting people and being generally uncivil is what gets people in trouble.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

No, nothing like that. I’ve been modded a small handful of times, but I can’t even remember the last time it happened.

efritz's avatar

One time I got really unduly irritated at this grammar-challenged person who was basically asking Fluther to do their homework for them. The user removed the question right away, but I like to think I would’ve been modded that one time . . .

Coloma's avatar

I’m holding my own, and, I can flag myself if I catch my verbosity breach. haha
My issue is primarily the off topic verbosity, it takes a lot to piss me off, but, it can happen. :-)

Paul's avatar

No, haven’t posted enough yet but I plan to! Post more, not get suspended, that is.

Lightlyseared's avatar

Nope. Loads of answers modded and I once got an email from Ben trying to justify why they’d deleted my perfectly reasonable explanation on the best way to get to silverstone for British Grand Prix. But that’s it.

Lightlyseared's avatar

funny a minute after posting this I get lurve from the silvertsone Q. I’m impressed how quickly someone found it.

MilkyWay's avatar

@Lightlyseared LOL. Hey, do you remember what the other 2 posters said to get modded?

Lightlyseared's avatar

@MilkyWay Yes one of them is me. The other said helicopter too. But the rules at the time said the first response to a question wasn’t allowed to be funny (even if it was answering the question).

bob_'s avatar

Nope. Nada.

bob_'s avatar

@Lightlyseared Oh, hey, I was there, too XD

Paul's avatar

@bob_ So you used to be _bob?

MilkyWay's avatar

@Paul Psst, read his profile ;)

bob_'s avatar

@Paul Yes. I was bob_ first, then I quit, came back as _bob, and then auggie was nice enough to let me have my name back.

jrpowell's avatar

Nope. I don’t even think I have gotten any sort of warning. And I have said some mean shit. I have had stuff removed but nobody ever said anything about it. Maybe I get some leniency since I do actually try to help solve computer problems.

FutureMemory's avatar

Modded constantly for off-topic replies, and the rare personal attack (I promise though that they always deserved it).

Don’t think I’ve ever been given an official warning.

Nimis's avatar

I’ve had a few of my questions modded. But other than [REDACTED].

KateTheGreat's avatar

I’ve been modded plenty of times. Just a few questions of mine have been modded, but plenty of answers have been removed for either being off-topic or just plain mean.

However, I’ve never been suspended.

Brian1946's avatar

No I haven’t.

However, I was kicked from chat last week. ;-0 I hadn’t said anything to anyone there, much less expressed any hostility toward anyone, before I was kicked.

I thought that perhaps I was kicked for entering, not saying anything, and then leaving several times that day, even though most of those times there was no ongoing conversation.

According to Auggie, apparently a mod was trying to clear chat of all the occupants because none of them were chatting.
‘tis a great relief to know that we wallflowers can still lurk at our leisure! ;-D

I was banned for 12 hours from another socially interactive site about 9 years ago just because I had two accounts there. However, part of the reason might have been that I had my second account insult my first one a few times.

lillycoyote's avatar

@FutureMemory Now that I think of it, I did get modded once for flame-baiting or a personal attack or something like that but just the once and I think it was not entirely deserved; but that’s what people usually think, so maybe it was.

athenasgriffin's avatar

No.

I don’t think I’ve ever been modded, either.

Should I be proud that I’m such a good jelly or embarrassed that I’m so boring?

JilltheTooth's avatar

Hey, @ANef_is_Enuf , think we could convince Auggie to do a “pity-mod” on @athenasgriffin?

Coloma's avatar

Maybe it just depends on who the mod of the day is.
I have certainly seen much worse than the once or twice I allowed myself to get a bit testy in the 16 months or so since I arrived.. Who knows. I am mostly at fault for forgetting I am in general and carrying on a bit. It’s all good in the moment, as far as I am aware. ;-)

Berserker's avatar

That would be funny if someone got modded in here. XD

KateTheGreat's avatar

Watch, just because you said that, we’re all going to get modded by someone trying to be funny. :)

Cruiser's avatar

I have been told to sit on the side of the tide pool until fluther notice.

Berserker's avatar

@KatetheGreat I would if I was a mod. Which is probably why I’m not one. XD

KateTheGreat's avatar

@Symbeline hahaha, if I was a mod, I’d probably do the same. I’d have too much fun with it.

Coloma's avatar

Now, now, no abuse of power! ;-)

poisonedantidote's avatar

Fluther suspends people? That is total bullshit, mod or ban, dont suspend, it’s just so chillingly authoritarian and presumptious.

I have had some questions sent back for bad grammar. Other than that nothing comes to mind.

incendiary_dan's avatar

I’ve been modded a few times, never suspended. Usually it made sense, sometimes it was downright stupid. I’ve had responses modded as personal attacks when I said nothing at all inflammatory or even directed comments at anyone (just some whiny-ass defensive jerk reporting it). One of those conversations got me a warning, despite the fact that I wasn’t behaving aggressively.

Most of the mods are cool, at least one is a bit too quick to apply their power.

Some_Ghost's avatar

No. You cannot suspend me, I’m dead. My account is not in this site’s database, yet, it exists. Mwaha.

filmfann's avatar

I have had many questions modded, many answers removed, and had a secondary account deleted.
I will say the mods were probably right on most of those.
And they really smell nice.

shego's avatar

I’ve had my fair share of being modded when I first joined. But it’s been a little over a year since I was last modded. Though I would think I would have had several warnings for writing standards when I’m drunk and fluthering.

Seaofclouds's avatar

@JilltheTooth The few times I’ve been modded, I expected it for going off topic, but I felt like I had to do it.

bkcunningham's avatar

I’ve never been suspended or warned about anything. I’ve had to so many answers deleted I’ve lost count.

JLeslie's avatar

No. But, I do admit I go off topic quite a bit.

rooeytoo's avatar

I haven’t even been modded that often. Since I am a bit of a smart mouth, that is pretty surprising!!!

JLeslie's avatar

I wonder what the temperature in Oshkosh is this time of night?

Your_Majesty's avatar

If you mean account suspension (temporary) it never happens to me. If you mean moderation it happens quite often. And yes, I really expect they give me a suggestion on how could I fix my question when they mod me for something I don’t know about.

And @Coloma, you deserve that moderation for being too much off-topic in general section! Jk

Coloma's avatar

Oh oh…I forgot the “X” in Faux Paux…tsk, tsk, what, no one has flagged me for editing?
Slackers!

@Your_Majesty

It’s an ongoing challenge. ;-)

augustlan's avatar

Just an FYI… many people have been suspended and most come back. I haven’t seen any of them answering this question, though. I think most people who get suspended would rather not share it.

jonsblond's avatar

I’m sure I’ve been pretty close. I know auggie really wants to use that whip on me. ;)

I try to disappear on my own for a bit when I know I need the timeout.

Bellatrix's avatar

Had a couple of questions modded. Otherwise, no, nothing. :-| Have to try harder…

Plucky's avatar

No. No warnings either. I’ve had a couple questions and answers modded. That’s it.

I think most people that have been suspended are not likely to share that information (on this thread).

wilma's avatar

No I haven’t.

AmWiser's avatar

Never! I’m an exemplary flutherite. Tehehe.

Jude's avatar

Survey says? Nope.

Coloma's avatar

@augustlan

Haha, you may be right about that.

cockswain's avatar

No. I’ve got dirt on every single mod. Nasty stuff.

erichw1504's avatar

No, never have. I’ve had a few responses modded and my wrist slapped a couple times (mod PM), but that’s about it. I’m a pretty good boy.

OpryLeigh's avatar

No, I’m not hardcore enough.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Not suspended,but warned.
It was probably the nicest warning I’ve ever received.:)

MilkyWay's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I know what you mean XD
Only Fluther has got ‘polite’ warnings.

erichw1504's avatar

I’ve worn suspenders while Fluthering. Does that count?

MilkyWay's avatar

@erichw1504 How old are you??
:P

erichw1504's avatar

@MilkyWay Old enough to have watched that show when it originally aired.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Suspenders are HOT.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf yes they are. A willingness to wear them is a prerequisite in any girl I date.

SpatzieLover's avatar

I’ve banned myself a few times. Does that count?

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

Gadzooks, I can’t remember the last time I got modded answer wise but questions….mod city. Get modded because the question was too hard, other times maybe offensive, incendiary, flame-baitish, etc. Then I water it down and get modded because it is not strong enough. I don’t know, since I can’t get to a fluffy middle the boot might be a question away.

rooeytoo's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central – I sure hope not! I will go out on strike if you should get the boot.

Buttonstc's avatar

Nope. Not even warned. How dull and predictable !

:D

dappled_leaves's avatar

Had a few answers modded and was always surprised (and a little hurt). I didn’t know you could get suspended either… that seems excessive for things like being off topic. Maybe they should just reserve that for people who are mean to others?

Brian1946's avatar

@dappled_leaves

“I didn’t know you could get suspended either… that seems excessive for things like being off topic.”

You won’t get suspended for being off-topic.

If some of your posts in a Social or Meta thread are off-topic, they won’t probably won’t even get modded unless they’re also spam, flame-bait, or personal attacks.

However, if any of your posts in a General thread are off-topic, they will get modded, but you certainly won’t get suspended for that alone.

Coloma's avatar

Not necessarily.
My understanding of my suspension was primarily off topic related. I had several warnings spaced some weeks apart. My minor moment of huffiness was also minor compared to many I have read. Sooo, I would say I was suspended for primarily forgetting to heed the warnings more so than anything else.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@rooeytoo Thank you, I suspect some will pop the corks and start dancing through the Fluther streets. I guess other than questions too strong would be small spelling things, missed words, and such. I spend so much time reediting I sometimes create mess ups where there wasn’t any. I am “I can’t say it like that, they will kick it, if I use that phrase they will kick it, they are going to say they can’t understand it like that and bar the question,” etc. Half the time I don’t know what to ask or how I can ask it.

augustlan's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central 99.99% of the time, your questions are modded for typos, not because they’re too controversial.

A member can get suspended (and even banned) if they repeatedly break any of the guidelines, despite our efforts to get the troublesome behavior to stop. We generally start with a friendly reminder or two. If that doesn’t do the trick, we move on to a formal warning. Next up is suspension, then in the worst case scenario, a ban.

Blondesjon's avatar

Removed By Fluther Moderators.

flutherother's avatar

@Blondesjon And quite right too!! That was shocking!

erichw1504's avatar

I have never been suspended from Flut

downtide's avatar

No. And I’ve only been modded once in… um… 19 months.

downtide's avatar

@erichw1504 oops it looks like they gotcha!

Zaku's avatar

No. I only remember having one or two answers modded away as unhelpful, one of which I didn’t agree with. I don’t count those that got fnorded on the fnord thread.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central… I have a secret. The spell check doesn’t automatically check the spelling in the field where you enter your question. No idea why. But if you right click and chose “check spelling,” then it will check your spelling. If I don’t do that I get busted every time.

Ain’t never been warnt or not nothing. Certainly not sus….. [BAM!]

Jeruba's avatar

Had answers modded away, mostly for being off topic. I expected it; I was trying to get away with something (and once or twice I did). A couple of questions modded for being duplicates. No warnings or suspensions. I try to walk away when I feel the urge to fight arising.

Stinley's avatar

I try not to break rules and have been very contrite the couple of times i’ve been modded. When someone is suspended does their profile disappear? I’ve noticed this a couple of times and the detective work i’ve done supports my theory

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Stinley You’ll get used to it! It’s not so bad after a while. : ).

augustlan's avatar

@Stinley If an account is deactivated for any reason (including a voluntary one), the profile does disappear.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Did you know I got seriously modded once for posting a question that the mods deemed to be A POLL QUESTION!!!! Things have sure changed in the last year and a half! When I first got here I couldn’t go pee without getting modded for doing it wrong. It made the wrong sound or something! Ain’t that right Auggie? : )

augustlan's avatar

^^She pees really loud. :p

JilltheTooth's avatar

Oh, dear, now I’m afraid to go pee…

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh noes! They heard me again! Be afraid @JilltheTooth. Be very afraid!

Plucky's avatar

@augustlan Tee hee. I totally pee’d a little when I read that.

Dutchess_III's avatar

[YOU ARE SO MODDED!!]

Plucky's avatar

Gahhh!!!

Blueroses's avatar

@Plucky that Gahhh!!! looks so adorable next to your little dog. It totally looks like he’s saying it.

Plucky's avatar

@Blueroses He did say it! He fears modding more than I do.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@Dutchess_III spelling error there – they’re gonna have to suspend you for that
